Porto Alegre

06/10/2009

Porto Alegre, capital of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, is the second largest city in south of Brazil. It lies on the eastern bank of Guaíba Lake, a delta resulting from the junction of five rivers, and popularly mentioned as a river too.

It is one of the most important political, cultural and economic centers of Southern Brazil. From the tourist point of view, it has a lot of attractions. The Public Market, the Usina do Gasômetro Cultural Center, the Farroupilha Park, the squares and museums around the city, all of them attract tourists as well as locals too. There is a brand new museum called Fundação Iberê Camargo, wich is dedicated to the work of the famous Brazilian artist Iberê Camargo, who was born in Porto Alegre.

There are also lots of excellent restaurants and bars, and the nightlife is an attraction for itself.
