Blumenau, a piece of Germany in Brazil

11/10/2011

Blumenau is a city located in Santa Catarina state, south of Brazil. It was founded by the German immigrant Hermann Otto Bruno Blumenau in 1850, who arrived in Brazil along with other 17 German immigrants. They came from Germany to settle a colony in Brazilian lands, which later became one of the most important cities in the south of the country.

The German culture influence is very present, and can be seen in the architecture, name of the streets, breweries and in the most important event of the town, the Oktoberfest.
